Bangladesh has supported South Africa’s appeal to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Israel for committing genocide in the occupied Gaza Strip. This information was informed in a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

The statement said Bangladesh supported South Africa’s request to initiate legal proceedings against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for violating its obligations under the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide (Genocide Convention) against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip. told

It said Bangladesh also supports South Africa’s request for an indication of temporary measures, including a request to suspend all military operations inside and against Gaza and to allow safe, adequate and uninterrupted humanitarian access to all areas of Gaza. Decisive action is needed to end the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza.

In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, Bangladesh has welcomed the opportunity to submit a timely declaration of intervention in the activities. Tens of thousands of innocent Palestinian civilians, most of them women and children, have lost their lives as a result of continued attacks by the Israeli Defense Forces.

The statement said, Bangladesh considers this planned aggression as a clear disregard and violation of international law, including the Genocide Convention. As a state party to the Genocide Convention, Bangladesh calls on all States to respect their obligations under the Genocide Convention to prevent and punish the crime of genocide.

Bangladesh reiterated its call for an immediate ceasefire and the prompt, safe and unimpeded delivery of life-saving aid to Gaza, the statement said. Bangladesh reiterated earlier calls for an end to Israel’s occupation of Palestine and a durable and permanent solution, which calls for the establishment of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state along the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
