A day of national mourning is being observed in the country today on Monday after the death of Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Sabah. The national flag is kept at half-mast in all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, buildings and educational institutions and Bangladesh missions abroad.
Cabinet Secretary Md. A declaration signed by Mahbub Hossain informed about the state mourning over the death of Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of Kuwait, a genuine friend of Bangladesh. Besides, special prayers will be offered in all mosques of the country. Other religious institutions will also pray for the peace of his soul.

Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah died on Saturday at the age of 86, three years after coming to power.
Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah became the Emir of Kuwait in September 2020 after the death of his brother Sheikh Sabah. However, Prince Sheikh Michel Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has been serving as the de facto ruler of the country since 2021. The name of Sheikh Michel Al-Ahmed Al-Sabahr (83) has also been announced as the new Emir of Kuwait.
