The Great Victory Day-2023 was celebrated at Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia with due dignity. Acting High Commissioner Mohammad Khorshed Alam Khastgir started the program by hoisting the national flag at the High Commission premises at 10 am on Saturday. A discussion meeting was held after the hoisting of the flag.
At the beginning of the discussion meeting, prayers were offered for the souls of the brave martyrs and a minute of silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of the liberation war. Speeches of the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs were read and documentaries made on the Liberation War were screened. The press release signed by the First Secretary (Press) of the High Commission informed about the event.
Acting High Commissioner in his speech remembered Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with reverence. He also paid tribute to the memory of the four national leaders and all the brave freedom fighters.
Congratulating the expatriate Bangladeshis on Victory Day, Acting High Commissioner said, ‘The father of the nation rebuilt the war-torn country in just three and a half years. The Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was drafted in just 10 months. He took the war-torn country to the ranks of least developed countries. When Bangabandhu was taking the final stage of economic liberation of the country. Sonar Bangla was moving ahead steadily. Just then, the anti-independence forces brutally killed him along with most of his family members on the night of August 15, 1975. The economic progress of the country is stalled. Attempts are made to make the country backward.’
Mohammad Khorshed Alam Khastgir said, ‘Following Bangabandhu’s dream of building Sonar Bangla, his privileged daughter Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is determined to build a prosperous and knowledge-based smart Bangladesh. As a result of his effective actions, Bangladesh has become a dynamic economy and a country of potential. Bangladesh’s progress in poverty alleviation, women’s empowerment, environmental protection, health, education in various social indicators is enviable. Bangladesh today is considered as a role model of development in the world.
Acting High Commissioner urged expatriates to send remittances through banks and said, ‘If money is sent through legal channels, economic development of the country will accelerate. Moreover, if sent illegally, the hard-earned money of expatriates can be used for various crimes including terrorism, militancy. As the country will be affected by this, personal liability will also be created in such crimes including money laundering.’
Mohammad Khorshed Alam Khastgir also said, ‘This expatriate-friendly government has undertaken multi-dimensional activities for the welfare of expatriates. Bangladesh High Commission is performing its duty with the utmost sincerity in providing all kinds of welfare services including passport-visa, consular services, employment, as required by expatriates. The High Commission does not condone any kind of laxity to the officers and employees, nor will it in the future.
Leaders of the Bangladesh community living in Malaysia and officials of the High Commission were present on the occasion.
