Bangladesh High Commission Malaysia celebrated Expatriate Day-2023 with the theme ‘Welfarism and dignity of expatriate is our commitment, they are also partners in building smart Bangladesh’.
On the occasion of the day, a discussion meeting, documentary film screening, cultural program and raffle draw were organized in the hall of G Tower Hotel in Kuala Lumpur in order to recognize the contribution of expatriates and involve them more in the country’s development activities.
Representatives of the Malaysian Immigration Department, expatriate Bangladeshi professionals, workers, Bangladesh community leaders, students, Bangladesh High Commission officials were present in the event.
High Commissioner of Bangladesh appointed to Malaysia was the chief guest at the event. Shamim Ahsan. High Commission’s Council (Labor) Syed Shariful Islam, Head of Foreign Workers Division in Malaysia Hariri Bin Haroon, Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Hiru Market Madam Chang, NBL Money Transfer, Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia spoke in the discussion. Ali Haider Mortuza, Bangladesh community leader in Malaysia Maqbul Hossain Mukul and STG company worker Abdur Rahim.
Speeches of the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Minister of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment were read out on the occasion of the National Expatriate Day. After that, on the occasion of this day, special documentaries and documentaries made on the activities of the High Commission for the welfare of expatriates were also shown.
In the discussion, the head of Malaysia’s Foreign Workers Division, Hariri Bin Harun, said, ‘Bangladeshi workers are playing an important role in Malaysia’s economic development. Malaysia is working to protect Bangladeshi workers.
He also mentioned that the Malaysia Foreign Workers Division is working with the High Commission to ensure workers’ insurance benefits.
Madam Chang, chief executive officer of Malaysia’s Hiru Market, praised Bangladeshi workers and said, ‘Bangladesh workers are very hardworking and honest.’

Referring to the Prime Minister’s immigration-friendly policy, he said, ‘The embassy is working sincerely to implement Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s immigration-friendly policy.’
He said, ‘Expatriate Bangladeshis are playing an important role in the development of the host country Malaysia and Bangladesh. Malaysia is the eighth largest investor in Bangladesh. The trade between the two countries is about 4 billion dollars. The friendly relations between the two countries are getting stronger day by day. The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is working together with the Malaysian government and various immigration departments to ensure a safe working environment and protection for Bangladeshi workers.
The High Commissioner urged expatriates to send remittances to the country through legal means and said, ‘If money is sent to the country through legal means, the development of the country will accelerate. Bangladesh is not only a labor sending country. The professionals of Bangladesh are putting their signature of competence in the international arena in various intellectual sectors.
On the occasion of Expatriates Day, 18 people in different categories of expatriates living in Malaysia were given honor crests and certificates by the High Commission.
Among the professionals, the awardees are – Malaysia’s Kelantan University Senior Lecturer Dr. Laila Nahar, Professor Saidur Rahman of Sunway University, Professor of Perdana University. Md. Nazmul Hasan Majiz, International Medical University student Misher Raihan Chowdhury, Malaysian High Court lawyer Barrister Salim Ishfaq Ali, UKM University Professor Md. Tariqul Islam, Sunway University Professor MA Hannan, Islami University Professor AK Ahsanul Haque and students. Faizal.’
The top remittance sender awarded in the professional category is – Abdus Salam, Md. Zahidul Islam and Dr. Saidur Rahman. The top remittance senders awarded in the business category are – Md. Wahidur Rahman, Md. Borhanuddin and Md. Zakir Hossain Pradhan. The awardees in general worker category are Raj, Md. Rashedul and Mahabub Azam.
After the discussion, a cultural program and raffle draw were held with the performance of expatriate Bangladeshi artists.
