The 12th National Assembly elections ended in a very peaceful environment without any major violence. In this election, out of five parliamentary constituencies in Gazipur, candidates of the ruling Awami League have won four and an independent candidate has won one seat.
Election Returning Officer Abul Fate Mohammad Safiqul Islam announced the results of the polls at his office after the day-long polling on Sunday.
According to the announced results, Minister of Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur-1 seat, Minister of State for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell in Gazipur-2 seat, Rumana Ali in Gazipur-3 seat, Awami League presidium member Simin Hossain Rimi in Gazipur-4 seat and Gazipur as the boat sailors. Independent candidate Akhtaruzzaman was elected privately in 5 seats.
Analysis of the election results showed that a total of 7 candidates contested in Gazipur-1 seat. In the results obtained in 237 polling stations, AKM Mozammel Haque got 1 lakh 9 thousand 218 votes in boat symbol, his nearest rival independent candidate Rezaul Karim Russel got 92 thousand 788 votes in truck symbol.
A total of 9 candidates contested in Gazipur-2 seat. In the results obtained in 270 polling stations, Zahid Ahsan Russel got 1 lakh 39 thousand 86 votes on boat symbol, his nearest rival independent candidate Kazi Alim Uddin Buddin got 81 thousand 804 votes on truck symbol. In this seat, Nauka was elected privately by getting more than 22 thousand 182 votes.
A total of 7 candidates contested in Gazipur-3 seat. The results obtained in 183 polling stations in this constituency showed that Rumana Ali, the candidate of the boat symbol, got 1 lakh 26 thousand 196 votes, her nearest rival independent candidate Iqbal Hossain Sabuj got 1 lakh 16 thousand 74 votes.
A total of 7 candidates contested in Gazipur-4 seat. The results obtained in a total of 122 polling stations showed that Simin Hossain Rimi, candidate of the boat symbol, got 89 thousand 729 votes, his nearest rival, Alam Ahmed, an independent candidate of the eagle symbol, got 44 thousand 45 votes.
A total of 8 candidates contested in Gazipur-5 seat. Independent candidate and former member of parliament Akhtaruzzaman won the truck symbol by getting 81 thousand 477 votes according to the results obtained from 124 centers. His nearest rival Meher Afroz got 67 thousand 774 votes with boat symbol. An independent candidate has won this seat by getting more than 13 thousand 703 votes.
