The court sentenced four accused to death in the case of murder of an auto-rickshaw driver in Munshiganj’s Lauhjung. The other accused in this case have been sentenced to different terms. The accused were present in the court when the verdict was announced.
Judge Khaleda Yasmin Urmi of Munshiganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Second Court gave this judgment on Wednesday afternoon.
The convicts sentenced to death are Rubel Islam Nayan (29), Mohammad Rajen (25), Akram Molla (22) and Hasan Sheikh (22). Apart from this, the court acquitted the accused Imran Hossain Tofazzal and Sabuj Sheikh as the charges against them were not proved. On the other hand, three accused have been sentenced to two years imprisonment.

According to the affidavit of the case, Ashraful Islam, who died on September 29, 2020, took an auto-rickshaw out of his house at around 6 in the evening like every day. Later at 8 o’clock the father of the deceased said. The news came to Rafiqul Islam that his son Ashraful was found with his throat slit in the Gwalimandra area of the upazila. Later they rescued him and took him to Lauhjong Health Complex and from there he was sent to Dhaka Medical College (DMH) Hospital for better treatment. The doctor on duty there declared him dead around 10 pm.
The statement also revealed that the accused, including the death row accused, hit Ashraful on the throat with a sharp weapon for robbing the autorishka. Later left it on the road and fled in an autorickshaw.
In this incident, the father of the victim, Rafiqul Islam, filed a murder case against 9 people at the Munshiganj Lauhjong police station the next day on September 30. Later, the police arrested nine accused in this incident.
After the arrest, the accused gave a statement under section 164 in the court. 13 witnesses testified in the case. The court gave this verdict today after three years of trial.
Court strategist Adv. Sirajul Islam Paltu said that the state got justice in this verdict.
