Police have arrested two people from Dhaka on charges of theft in a Chittagong market. They were arrested from Abdullahpur in Dhaka on Tuesday night. Santosh Chakma, Officer-in-Charge of Panchlaish Police Station, confirmed the matter in a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.
The arrested are Shubo Dutta alias Ripon Das (24) and Monir Hossain (25). Earlier on Monday, the police arrested another person named Sulaiman Badsha of the same gang.
According to the police, all those arrested are employees of a security organization called ‘D-For-S’. They used to work as security guards in the market named ‘Eligy Sky Park’ in Bahaddarhat of the city.
In a press conference Santosh Chakma said that mobile phones, cash and gold ornaments were stolen from three shops of ‘Eligy Sky Park’ market on December 25. The shop owners claimed that 23 mobile phones were stolen from the Apple Classic shop, 30 mobile phones from the KS Mobile shop and 24 pieces of gold ornaments and 250 pieces of silver were stolen from Sky Jewellers. The market authorities filed a case in Panchlaish police station in this incident.
After receiving the complaint, the police started investigating. Solaiman Badsha and Shubo Dutt alias Ripon Dash who are in charge of security of the market were contacted. Solaiman was found but Shubo was not found. When Solaiman is detained and interrogated, he gives some information about the theft and admits his involvement. Later Shubo and Monir who were hiding in Dhaka were arrested based on intelligence information. He also said that Shubo and Monir were preparing to sell the stolen goods in Dhaka.
Santosh Chakma also said that Sunday was a weekend for the market. These three security personnel stole the market by turning the CCTV camera late that night.
