The police have arrested a person almost four and a half years after the case of killing a rickshaw puller named Robin Mia in a gang thrashing after seeing the severed head of a child in a bag in Netrakona’s Newtown after rumors spread about the name of the Padma Bridge.

The accused in the case was arrested from Barhatta Road in the city on Friday night.

Arrested Munna Mia (43) son of Muktu Mia of Newtown area. The deceased rickshaw driver Robin Mia was the son of Eklas Uddin of Katli area. Robin lived in a rented house in Katli area. The severed head belonged to Sajeeb Miar, son of rickshaw puller Raich Uddin of East Katli area of ​​the city.

Netrakona Model Police Station OC Abul Kalam Azad said that Munna was arrested on the warrant of the court.

Netrakona PBI inspector Emdadul Bashar said citing the investigation of the case that Robin was carrying the dismembered head of a child in a bag in front of Harijan Palli in the city on July 18, 2019 amid rumors that a child’s head would be needed for the implementation of the Padma Bridge. When the matter came to their notice, the locals beat him to death. Later, the police investigation revealed that after killing the child in an abandoned house in Katli area around 11 am on the day of the incident, Robin cut his throat and carried the head in a bag. In this incident, SI Nazmul Hasan of Netrakona Model Police Station filed two separate cases in police station for the murder of Sajib’s father Raich Uddin and Robin.

The final report was given to the court as Robin, the accused of Sajib’s murder, was killed. On October 14, 2020, the specialized agency of the police, PBI, took charge of the investigation of the Robin murder case, which passed through the hands of the Thana police and the CID. Later, on December 15, 2023, after giving the final report to the court, the court issued an arrest warrant against them.

Netrakona District Police Spokesperson, Additional Superintendent of Police Lutfar Rahman said that there was a rumor around June 2019 that a child’s head would be found on the Padma Bridge. At that time on June 18, a rickshaw driver named Robin was going from Harijan Palli direction of the city with the head of a child. Realizing this, the locals beat him to death. Munna has been arrested on a court warrant in this case. He will be produced in court on Saturday.
