Apple surpassed Samsung’s record in manufacturing and supplying smartphones to the global market. According to International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, Apple shipped 23.46 million units of smartphones worldwide in 2023. This is 20.1 percent of the global technology market. At the same time, Samsung shipped 22.66 million units of smartphones, which is 19.4 percent of the market.

Global technology market analyst company Canalys also released similar data, along with tech website IDC.

Samsung has held this position since 2010 i.e. for the last 13 years. The rest of the smartphone manufacturers that made it to the top five last year are – Xiaomi, Oppo and Transition. The global smartphone shipments of these companies are 14 crore 59 lakh, 10 crore 31 lakh and 9 crore 49 lakh respectively.

But diversity is increasing in the overall smartphone sector. Huawei has quickly established itself in the Chinese smartphone market. Apart from this, OnePlus, Honor, Google and other brands are bringing various devices in the market at low prices. Apart from foldable features, the addition of AI capabilities is also being talked about.

According to the IDC report, the overall smartphone shipment market in 2023 will decrease by 3.2 percent compared to 2022. However, it increased by 8.5 percent in the fourth quarter.

According to many tech analysts, Apple’s recent success is very significant for their business. The company has been successful despite various hurdles due to proper business planning.
