DB Police has arrested three people including a lawyer named Nab Kumar Kundu for anonymously threatening to kill and rape a woman judge in Jessore. On Wednesday night and Thursday morning, raids were conducted in different areas of Jessore city and they were arrested.
The judge ordered them to be sent to jail when they were produced in court this afternoon.
The arrested are- Advocate Nab Kumar Kundu (55) resident of Old Kasba area of Jessore city, Rabiul Islam (42) of Mahuri Old Kasba Kazipara and computer operator Mihir Kumar Saha of Sashitala area of the city.
According to the police, Judge Farzana Yasmin of Jessore’s Additional District and Sessions Judge Court is serving as Acting District Judge. On January 28, he received a letter in the mail. The letter, signed by Nazrul Islam, a member of the Revolutionary Communist Party, mentions, ‘You are specially requested to grant bail to all the accused even if there are allegations of rape in the Criminal Miss 29/24 case on January 30. Otherwise your life will be ended and so will you.’
When the judge reported the matter to the law enforcement agencies, the DB police started an investigation. After reviewing the CCTV footage and documents of Jessore Post Office, Mahuri Rabiul Islam was arrested from Kazipara on Wednesday late night. According to the information given by him, computer operator Mihir Saha was arrested from Civil Court Mor area of the city today at 11 am. Advocate Nav Kumar Kundu was later arrested on the information given by both of them.
The arrestee gave information to the three judges admitting to the threat in the letter. DB Police SI Mofizul Islam filed a case at Jessore Kotwali Police Station as the plaintiff in this incident.
Senior police officials refused to comment on the incident.
Jessore District Bar Association General Secretary Shahinur Alam Shaheen said, ‘If the allegations are true, organizational action will be taken against that lawyer.’
