Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun told reporters that 44 people were killed in the fire in the multi-storey building on Bailey Road until the last news. The bodies of four of the victims have been identified so far.

One of the deceased was Lutfur Nahar Lucky, a teacher of Vikarunnessa School and College, and Tanjila Esha. Both are believed to be in their thirties. The other two who have been identified are Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) students Nahian Amin and Lamisha Islam.

Before this, the Minister of Health Dr. Samanta Lal Sen reported 43 casualties. Among them, 33 people died in Dhaka Medical College Hospital, 10 people died in Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute and 1 person died in Central Police Hospital. Many women and children were killed. The death toll is expected to rise.

Immediately after the incident, Sheikh Hasina visited the burn institute. Samant Lal Sen. The health minister spoke to the journalists after the visit. He said that the hospital authorities are trying their best to deal with the situation.

The health minister said that most of them died due to airway burns. Apart from this, many died due to suffocation due to washing.

The fire started in a juice shop on the ground floor of the Green Cozy building on Bailey Road. Which then spread rapidly due to the gas cylinders in the building. However, 13 units of fire service brought the fire under control in 2 hours. After that, the fire service recovered the bodies of three people from there.

Apart from this, 42 people were rescued in an unconscious state. And 75 people were rescued alive.
