In Matibhanganga Union of Nazirpur Upazila of Pirojpur, there were allegations of attack by chanting boat slogans in the support of independent candidate AKMA Awal of Pirojpur-1 Constituency. Dipten Majumder Bappi, general secretary of Matibhanganga Union Awami League, complained about the attack in Baraibunia market in Ward No. 4 of the union on Saturday afternoon.
Nazirpur Upazila Awami League Vice President Afzal Hossain Khan along with local Awami League and Jubo League Chhatra League leaders were present in the worker rally.
Dipten Majumder Bappi, general secretary of Matibhanganga Union Awami League, said, “In order to increase voter turnout to celebrate the upcoming National Assembly elections, half a hundred people attacked the workers rally with boat slogans supported by independent candidate district Awami League president AKMA Awal, former member of parliament.” Vandalism. Five of our leaders were injured. Our leaders and workers are forced to leave in isolation.’
Belayet Hossain, president of Matibhanganga Union Awami League, said, ‘some people named Chhatra League Jubo League attacked our peaceful workers meeting with indigenous weapons. Several of our activists were injured. They are very much blocked, they are not even able to receive treatment.’
Humayun Kabir, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nazirpur police station said, ‘There was a boat and independent candidate’s meeting in the same area in Matibhanganga union. There was some scuffle between them. But nothing major happened. No one has complained about this yet.’
