Tahmina Begum, an independent candidate of Eagle symbol, has accused Awami League boat candidate Abdus Sobhan Mia Golap of Madaripur-3 (Sadar Ekansh, Kalkini and Dasar) seat for buying votes in exchange for black money.
He made this complaint in a press conference at Kalkini Upazila Awami League office on Friday evening. However, Abdus Sobhan Golap has claimed that these allegations are absurd, false and fabricated.
At that time, independent candidate Tahmina Begum also said, ‘She (Golap) has become desperate and now her black money has started spreading in the polling field since Friday. His budget is 13 crore rupees. We also know that out of this 13 crores he will spend half to buy votes and half to manage the administration. He has made a plan to manage those who are in civil administration, police, army, BGB with this black money.’
In the press conference, Tahmina Begum also said, ‘We have informed the Election Commission along with the proof of the distribution of black money of Golap. However, despite complaining, the Election Commission did not take any punitive action against Rose.
Tahmina Begum accused Golap of violating the code of conduct and said, “On Friday morning, boat workers Sharmin Jahan (Helena), Jamal Talukdar, Jamal Sardar and some other workers were distributing money in Jhowtala village of the municipality. As boat workers illegally distribute money to voters, local activists of our Eagle Prateek request them to stop their illegal activities. But the crew on the boat got mad at my staff with the eagle symbol. When the argument started, my staff left the place to avoid trouble.’
Tahmina Begum accused the independent candidate’s female agent Shobha Akhtar of hacking her to death and said, ‘Shobha Akhtar, the wife of Karim Howladar of South Thengamara area of Kalkini Municipality, was accused on Friday afternoon. Shobha is an Eagle Polling Agent at South Thengamara Government Primary School Polling Station. He was hacked to death by a group of terrorists led by boat worker Councilor Alil Howladar. When he was taken to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex with serious injuries, the doctors in charge sent him to Barisal Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital after first aid. Presently Shobha Akter’s condition is critical. In addition to injuring Shobha Akhtar, the terrorists attacked and vandalized two houses at that time.
Talking about death threats, Tahmina Begum said, ‘I am being threatened with death along with my workers. Boat candidates are destabilizing the election environment and are trying to postpone the election of various centers. He also said that Rose has a plan to attack and vandalize various areas on the day before the polling.
Complaining against the police, Tahmina Begum said, ‘One of the accused in the murder of my worker Eskender Khan of Laxmipur Union is Fazlur Haque Bepari, the former chairman of Laxmipur Union. The accused in the murder case is not being arrested even though he is openly working for the boat. The police is also giving an opportunity to question his neutrality.’
Tahmina Begum said, ‘Despite the fact that we have informed the concerned department along with the returning officer and demanded their arrest, no action has been taken against them and they are openly voting in favor of the boat. Which is creating doubt among the voters about taking impartial and free vote.
When asked about this, Abdus Sobhan Golap told reporters, ‘Where does he (Tahmina Begum) get these strange words from? He has been telling lies, baseless, fabrications against me since the beginning. Where did he get this account of 13 million rupees? You want proof. That woman (Tahmina Begum) came to Makkah for Hajj and did not accept such lies. It is not me, he is telling these ridiculous lies to question the election.’
It is to be noted that Awami League’s boat symbol candidate for Madaripur-3 Constituency is Abdus Sobhan Golap, Publicity and Publication Secretary of Central Awami League and current Member of Parliament. His closest rival is Tahmina Begum. She is also the current Member of Parliament of reserved women’s seat and President of Kalkini Upazila Awami League Tahmina Begum. Before this, there have been several incidents of violence between the activists and supporters of these two parties.
