Allegation of extortion: Two SIs of Shah Ali police station on 3-day remand

The court granted three-day remand to two sub-inspectors (SIs) of Mirpur’s Shah Ali police station arrested on charges of extortion. Earlier on Monday Sherbangla Nagar police station arrested them.

On Wednesday (December 20), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider gave this remand order. The two sub-inspectors are Tuhin Kazi and Moshiur Rahman Tapas.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarkar said that departmental and criminal action will be taken if the allegations against them are proved.

The two SIs have been accused of arresting and beating them in the false identity of government employees. There are also allegations of extortion.

Shahadat Sarkar, the plaintiff in the case, complained that 9 lakh rupees were looted from him. On December 9, 2 sub-inspectors DB police identified the accused in front of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University and stopped him. Then he forcibly looted money from cash and cards.

In this incident, the victim filed a case of kidnapping and extortion as a plaintiff at Sher Bangla Nagar police station in the capital.
