Trinamool BNP parliamentary candidate Ushaipru Marma’s supporters were allegedly beaten up and cars vandalized during election campaigning in Khagrachari’s Panchari. This incident took place in the Dudhkahra area of the upazila on Friday.
In addition to vandalizing 12 motorcycles and 2 cars, the victim candidate claimed that Trinamool BNP workers were also attacked.
Blaming the regional organization UPDF for the attack, Ushaipru Marma said, ‘An armed group of 12 people came and attacked a Marma neighborhood of Dudhkahra area of Panchari while holding a courtyard meeting. Meanwhile, our car was vandalized and supporters were beaten and injured.
However, denying the allegations of involvement in the incident, UPDF district organizer Angya Marma said, ‘UPDF has boycotted the parliamentary elections in Panchari to protest the killing of 4 leaders including Bipul Chakma. There are no parties involved here. Basically the people have resisted the one-sided election. This attack is just an example of that.’
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Panchari police station. Shafiul Azam said, ‘We have heard the matter. However, no one has yet made a written or verbal complaint in this incident.
