Meanwhile, Russian MP Andrei Kartapolov claimed in the Russian Parliament, “The plane was hit by three missiles fired by Ukraine.” The type of missile that was launched was supplied to Ukraine by the West.’
However, Kartapolov did not state the source of his information or provide evidence. “Who fired the missiles will be known through investigation,” he claimed.
According to the AFP report citing the Russian Defense Ministry, the plane crashed at around 11 am local time. It contained 65 Ukrainian soldiers detained from the war. Along with that, three more members were in that aircraft for the safety of the six crew and prisoners. The Russian IL-76 military aircraft had a total of 74 people on that flight. The crash occurred in the Belgorod region of southern Russia near the border with Ukraine. 65 detained Ukrainian soldiers were being taken for exchange.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian media reported that they shot down a Russian aircraft while carrying S-300 missiles. The speaker of the Russian Parliament, Vycheslav Volodin, said that Ukraine had shot down the plane carrying its prisoners of war.
Earlier, several incidents of missile attacks took place in Belgorod region. On December 30, missile and drone attacks killed 25 people in the region.
