Due to low visibility due to dense fog, take-off and landing of aircraft at Nilphamari’s Syedpur Airport has been suspended. No flights took off from 8am to 10am on Monday.
About 80 passengers of two flights of two private companies were stranded at the airport. However, the airport authorities said that there is no danger of cancellation of any flight.
Lokman Hossain, an official of the Airport Meteorological Office, said that usually the aircraft can take off and land on the runway if there is a visual range of 2,000 meters. At 9 am today, visibility in the airport area was 100 meters. As a result no flight from Dhaka could land here.
Syedpur Airport Manager Suplab Kumar Ghosh said that due to thick fog, flights have been disrupted at the airport. As visibility increases, flight operations will be normal. No flights are likely to be cancelled.
