After being closed for 8 and a half hours due to thick fog, ferry service has started on Daulatdia-Paturia route. Today Wednesday at 10 a.m. when the fog clears, the ferry service starts.
Earlier, due to dense fog, ferry traffic was stopped from 1.30 am on Tuesday to avoid accidents. Drivers and passengers suffered as some vehicles got stuck in the ghat area due to suspension of ferry services.
On the ground, at Daulatdia ferry ghat around 8 am, vehicles are waiting to cross the Dhaka-Khulna highway from the zero point of the ghat. Among these vehicles, cargo trucks are more. Drivers and passengers are suffering from long waiting times in winter.
Zaman Paribahan passenger Ashraful Islam said, ‘I am going to Dhaka for urgent work. When I arrived at the ferry port, I saw that the ferry was not running. Now I am sitting and thinking if I can reach Dhaka on time. What I suffered. If the Padma Bridge was completed, we would not have to suffer this.’
Another passenger Sohan said, ‘Another bridge has become necessary here. Because passengers on this route suffer all year round. We have to suffer this every year in the fog.’
BIWTC Aricha Region Deputy General Manager Shah Md. Khaled Newaz said, “When the river path became obscured by thick fog at 1.30 am, ferry traffic was stopped to avoid accidents. But there was no ferry stuck in the middle of the river. Once the fog clears, the ferry service starts from 10 am.’
