Administration to take steps to prevent encroachment of polling booths: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal has instructed the field administration to prevent the encroachment of the center on the polling day of the 12th National Assembly. He also said that voters should be given the opportunity to vote freely.

Kazi Habibul Awal gave this information in a press briefing after exchanging views with field administration officials including returning officers, assistant returning officers of 10 districts of Khulna division and 3 districts of Dhaka in Jessore on Friday.

The Chief Election Commissioner said, ‘so that the voters can exercise their right to vote freely by going to the polling station. The field administration has to take all kinds of steps so that there is no chaos in the centers and no encroachment. We have given them such instructions.’

Habibul Awal said, ‘The returning officer has to fulfill the main responsibility. In practice, he is the Election Commissioner, he is the CEC. So they have to fulfill their responsibilities with wisdom and talent.’

In response to a question, CEC said, ‘Some unpleasant incidents are happening. We are monitoring and investigating those issues. Instructions to take action have been given accordingly.’

290 officials of DC-SP, UNO-OC, BGB and Ansar forces were present in the exchange meeting with CEC. Later at 3 pm he participated in another discussion meeting with the candidates.
