Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will take action only when government offices file complaints of corruption with sufficient information. Apart from this, the ACC said that if any incident with evidence of corruption is seen, it will be investigated on its own initiative.
International anti-corruption body TIB says that effective role of ACC will increase public confidence.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the zero tolerance policy against corruption in the first cabinet meeting of the new government on January 15. He informed about his strict stance against corruption along with controlling inflation and commodity prices.
Following the instructions of the Prime Minister, the ministers gave the message of zero tolerance against corruption to their respective ministries. The media also informed about their strict attitude.
TIB’s executive director. Iftekharuzzaman said, not only words but exemplary measures should be taken against the corrupt.
ACC Commissioner Zahurul Haque said that the concerned institution knows well why corruption is happening in the institution. ACC is bound to take action if it gets information from any source including proof of corruption.
The ACC Commissioner is of the opinion that if all government institutions take an effective role against corruption, no one will be able to stop the economic progress.
