More than 60 percent of the world’s population, i.e. 5 billion people, are using social media. This information has emerged in a recent study. The report also mentions that users spend an average of two and a half hours on social media every day.
Digital advisory firm Caprios’s quarterly report shows this calculation. It is said that the number of social media users has reached close to 519 crore, which is 64.5 percent of the world’s population.
The number of social media users is constantly increasing. According to the report, the growth of social media users in 2023 will surpass all previous records.
However, the number of social media users varies by region. In East and Central Africa, only one in 11 people use social media. India is now the world’s most populous country, with one in three people using social media. The amount of time spent on social media is at least 2 hours 26 minutes per day.
Currently there are hundreds of social media networks in the world. Social media is often blog based, image and video based or messaging platforms. Of which Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) are the most popular. Chat based social networks like Telegram, WhatsApp, Messenger are very popular. Apart from this, the number of users of TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube is numerous. Currently there are at least 30 most active social media.
