A terrible landslide occurred in China’s southwestern Yunnan province. China’s state media reported that 47 people were buried in this Monday morning accident.

Meanwhile, the British media BBC reported that the temperature in Yunnan’s Zhaotong city has dropped below zero. As a result, rescue operations are being disrupted. So far, it is not known whether anyone has died or not.

Videos from local media showed rescuers working among collapsed houses and buildings. People’s Daily reported that more than 500 people were evacuated from the area after the accident.

State broadcaster CCTV said the accident took place around 5:51 am today. Many people are said to be buried under the rubble.

It is not yet known what caused the landslide. Authorities said they are investigating the cause of the landslide. However, landslides often occur in remote areas surrounded by mountains.

Earlier in January last year, a landslide occurred in Zhenxiong County of Zhaotong. 18 people were killed in that accident.
