A student in Russia named a wi-fi network "Slava Ukraine". His router was confiscated and he was sent to prison for ten days

A Moscow court sent a student who named his Wi-Fi network Slava Ukraine to prison for ten days. She informed RIA Novosti reported about it today.

Ukrainian exclamation “Glory to Ukraine!” (Glory to Ukraine), which is usually followed by “Herojam slava!” (Glory to the heroes!), has become a symbol of Ukrainian sovereignty and resistance to the Russian invasion, which, on the orders of President Vladimir Putin, Moscow began two years ago.

According to the court, a student of MV Lomonosov Moscow State University, Oleg Tarasov, changed the default name of the network, which was freely accessible, and marked it with a “propaganda slogan of Ukrainian nationalists”, RIA Novosti reported.

The court accused the man of spreading propaganda and “public display of Nazi symbolism”. In addition to the sentence of ten days in official custody, the student’s router was also confiscated.

After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine the year before last year, the Russian authorities began prosecuting opponents of the war for any public criticism of the Kremlin or support for the Ukrainian army. Critics risk being accused of discrediting the armed forces or spreading intentionally false information, for which, according to laws adopted after February 2022, there is a risk of up to 15 years behind bars.
