A police constable named Mehdi Hasan (24) was shot dead by a shotgun while eviction of slums in Shahjahanpur playground of the capital. In this incident, Shahjahanpur police station officer-in-charge Sujit Kumar Saha and Inspector Operation Maidul Islam were injured.
This incident happened around 2.30 pm on Sunday. Later, the injured policeman Mehdi Hasan was rescued and brought to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The rest are undergoing treatment at the police hospital.
Mehedi Hasan, who was shot, said, “Slum residents attacked the city corporation and the police during the slum eviction operation at the Shahjahanpur playground in the afternoon. At this time we fired to prevent the attack of Basir Basi. At that time, a bullet hit my left leg. After I was quickly rescued and brought to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical, the doctor admitted me to Ward No. 102.
Bachchu Mia, in-charge inspector of DMK Hospital police camp confirmed the matter and said that a policeman named Mehedi Hasan was shot dead during the evacuation operation led by South City Corporation in Shahjahanpur playground area. The policeman is currently under treatment in ward number 102.
When asked about this, Shahjahanpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sujit Kumar Saha said, ‘During the Dhaka South City Corporation’s eviction drive, the slum dwellers started throwing bricks and mortar at the police and City Corporation personnel. At that time, several policemen including me and my police station inspector (operation) Maidul Islam were injured by bricks. Police Inspector Operation Maidul Islam’s head burst. I along with other members of the police are currently undergoing treatment at Rajarbagh Hospital. Besides, he said that a police constable has been shot and is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical.
