Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has commented that a party is carrying out propaganda of various restrictions to thwart the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections. He made this comment in response to the questions of journalists attending an event of the Fishermen’s League in Sylhet on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said, ‘BNP is afraid to come to the polls because people do not support them. In the past, they did not get the support of the people even after participating in the elections in 2008 and 2018. And that is why they want to thwart the election by showing fear. However, the Election Commission will organize the election in a fair environment at the right time.

Regarding the mass reshuffling of various Upazila Nirbahi officers and police station OCs on the advice of the Election Commission, he said, “Even if it is not sure what will be the benefit, the Election Commission thinks it will be helpful in conducting fair elections.”

The foreign minister said that the letter sent to the United Nations regarding the Bangladesh election and the activities of various international circles is a personal thank you letter. He also thinks that news about this letter should not have been published in the media.

When asked about the threat of a ban on the garment sector, the foreign minister said, ‘Some people try to scare people. Their aim is to disrupt the election. There are some misguided people, they don’t want elections. They don’t get votes.’

At that time, the leaders of the local Awami League and Matszajebi League were present with the minister.
