A. League leader died in Bailey Road fire

A leader of Awami League died in a fire in the Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road in the capital. His name is Ataur Rahman Shamim. It is known that he was the vice-president of Kulaura Upazila Awami League and the former office secretary of United States Awami League. He was also a lawyer.

Saifur Rahman Ataur Rahman Shamim’s death was told to the journalists by the former vice-president of Chhatra League. He said, “I identified Shamim’s body in Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.”

Ataur Rahman Shamim was Awami League’s nominated candidate for Moulvibazar-2 constituency in the 2008 National Parliament election.

He went to have coffee with a person named Nurul Alam at a restaurant in Green Cozy Bhawan. Nurul Alam survived but Shamim died on the spot. Ataur Rahman Shamim’s wife and only daughter recently arrived in the country from the United States. His wife and daughter were due to return to the US on Sunday.
