The defeated candidate of Awami League in Brahmanbaria-1 (Nasirnagar) constituency in the recently held 12th National Parliament election, former MP Badruddoza Md. The Election Commission (EC) filed a case against Farhad Hossain (Sangram). The case was filed on Sunday on the charge of threatening a UP chairman in an election campaign meeting.
According to Article 73 of the Representation of the People Order 1972 and Rule 18 of the Rules of Conduct of Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections, 2008, Nasirnagar Upazila Election Officer Mohammad Shahidul Islam filed a statement at the local police station. Case number 14/14 dated 21/01/2024 has been registered in Nasirnagar police station. This officer filed this case on the instructions of EC.
It is said in the statement that on December 22, Badruddoza Md. held an election public meeting in the Kunda High School field of the upazila. Farhad Hossain threatened to remove the name of Sangram Kunda Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Nasir Uddin from Nasirnagar. In this, this person (Farhad Hossain) has violated the provisions of Article 77(1)(a) of the Representation of the People Order, 1972 and the provisions of Rule 11 of the Rules of Conduct of Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections, 2008. The relevant Election Inquiry Committee has reported to the Election Commission. The undersigned (Nasirnagar Upazila Election Officer Mohammad Shahidul Islam) has been directed to file a statement against the said accused person under Article 73 of the Representation of the People Order, 1972 and Rule 18 of the Rules of Conduct of Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections, 2008.
Earlier on January 11, under the order of the Election Commission, Deputy Secretary (Law) Md. Abduch Salam in a letter directed the upazila election officer to file a declaration in this regard immediately. Badruddoza said in that letter. Referring to the report sent by the Election Inquiry Committee against Farhad Hossain Sangram, it is said that the commission decided to file a complaint against the accused person at the concerned police station.
When asked about this, Nasirnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sohag Rana told Independent Digital that the case is being investigated.
Incidentally, the candidate of Awami League’s boat symbol in the National Parliament election held on January 7 Badruddoza Md. Farhad Hossain Sangram was defeated by independent candidate Syed AK Ekramuzzaman (Sukhon) of banana stick symbol by more than 43 thousand votes. Ekramuzzaman got 89 thousand 424 votes. RBM Farhad Hossain Sangram got 46 thousand 189 votes.
