A drone attacks a military base in Transnistria – media

The attack caused a fire but caused no casualties, the Ministry of Security of the separatist region of Moldova told RIA Novosti.

A Kamikaze drone attacked a military base in Tiraspol, the capital of the unrecognized Republic of Transnistria, the press service of the Ministry of Security of the region told RIA Novosti. Sunday’s incident reportedly caused a fire, but there were no casualties.

According to the TASS agency, the target of the attack was a military airport. An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) destroyed a helicopter stationed at the airport, the news agency added.

The de facto authorities in Transnistria have not yet commented on the extent of the damage. The Ministry of State Security of the breakaway republic only confirmed that there was a fire at one of the Tiraspol military bases caused by “explosion,” which in turn was the result of a drone attack.

Photos and videos that have surfaced on social media show what appears to be the wreckage of a military helicopter with its fuselage almost completely destroyed.

The Transnistrian Ministry of State Security claimed that the drone arrived from the so-called “Clover Bridge” area – a major multi-level highway intersection located north of the city of Tiraspol and near the Ukrainian border. The authorities of the unrecognized republic have not yet named any suspects behind the incident. Criminal proceedings were initiated in the case of the attack.
