A cowherd named Nurul Islam (65) died after being trampled by an elephant in the Garo Hills bordering Sherpur on Monday. His body was recovered tonight from Tawakocha in Garo Hills by locals and relatives.
The deceased cowherd Nurul Islam is the son of deceased Sahar Uddin of Gurucharan Dudhonai village of Jhenaigati upazila. He went to Tawakocha in Garo Hill with his herd of cows at around 10:30 this morning as usual. Even though the herd of cows returned home at night, Nurul Islam did not come home. As he did not return home, his relatives and local people went to Tawacocha to search and found his body at a place called Seguner Chali.
Later he was rescued and brought home.
In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhenaigati Police Station, Bachir Ahmed Badal said, ‘The left side of the face of the deceased Nurul Islam was bruised. The family has requested not to conduct an autopsy on his body. Further legal action in this regard is under process.’
