A college student died in an attack by a teenage gang in Tangail

A college student named Zijan Hasan Deepta (18) lost his life in an attack by a gang of teenagers while visiting his grandmother’s house in Basail, Tangail. In this incident, the police arrested three people including the master of the youth gang, Shakeel Ahmed alias TikTok Shakeel.

He died at around 6:30 this Friday morning while undergoing treatment in a hospital in Dhaka.

Jizan Hasan Dipta is the son of Jahangir Alam Mallick of Chakdah village of Sakhipur upazila. Deepta passed the Higher Secondary Examination in 2023 from Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Public College located in BGB Pilkhana, Dhaka. Since then he was preparing for admission to medical college.

Earlier this incident took place on January 26 (Friday) in Basil Uttarpara market. The day after the incident on January 27 (Saturday), Diptar’s mother, Soheli Sultana Dipa, filed a case in Basail police station naming 8 people and accusing 3-4 unknown people as the plaintiff.

The accused in the case are – Shakil Ahmed (25) son of Hossain Ali of Basail Thanapara, Alamgir Hossain (24) son of Tunu Mia of Twina Oroye Tunu Mia of Basail Thanapara, Swadhin Mia (20) son of Shah Alam of Thanapara, Mana Mia (19) son of Biru Ahmed, Monir of Thanapara. Hossain’s son Anik Mia (19), Selim Mia’s son Rahat Hassan (20) of the same area, Shukur Mia’s son Jihad Mia (19) and Kalu Mia’s son Simant Mia (19).

After the case, the police arrested the mastermind of the incident, Shakeel and his accomplices, Anik and Asad Mia. During the arrest of Shakil and Anik, five ram das and iron pipes, motorcycle chains, premium welded indigenous weapons were recovered from them. After that, a case was registered against Shakeel and Anik under the Arms Act. Currently three of them are in jail.

Photo: CollectedAccording to the source of the case, Jizan Hasan Deepta came to visit his maternal grandfather Rafiqul Islam’s house in Basail Dakshinpara area on January 23. Later on January 24 afternoon, Zijan Hasan went for a walk in Deept Basil Bazar along with his peers Naeem and Sajal Khan of Uttarpara. From there, Shakeel called Naeem to the roof of a building in Basil Bazar due to previous enmity and left him in fear. Zijan Hasan Deepta and Sajal Khan were also present at this time.

Then in the evening again, the three of them went towards Basil Bazar. At that time, when Basil reached the intersection in front of Money Clinic, they were attacked under the leadership of Shakil. Naeem and Sajal ran for their lives. At that time Deepta was severely injured by cutting and beating with native weapons including sharp blade, wooden stamp, iron pipe. Later, when the locals came forward, Shakeel and others fled. Later, Deepta was rescued and taken to Upazila Health Complex. From there he was transferred to Tangail General Hospital and later to Dhaka. Since that day, Deepta was kept on life support in a hospital in Dhaka. He died early Friday morning.

Confirming the death, Councilor Prince Mahmud of Ward No. 6 of Basil Municipality said, ‘College student Jizan Hasan Deepta was under treatment in a hospital in Dhaka since January 24 after being attacked by a gang of teenagers. Jizan Hasan Deept died early this morning 9 days after the attack.

In this regard, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Basil Police Station Nazrul Islam said, ‘The boy died in the morning while undergoing treatment. Three people have been arrested so far in this incident. An application has been made to the court to remand the principals Shakeel and Anik among them. Efforts are on to arrest the rest of the accused.
