A case has been registered in the murder of a farmer named Jewel Mia (35) in Netrakona’s Madan. The victim’s elder brother Zubair Mia (40) filed the murder case at Madan police station on Saturday afternoon.

30 people have been named in the case and 7 others have been named as defendants.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madan Police Station Ujjal Kanti Sarkar said that last Tuesday night, a Jhumur song gathering was held at Nazrul Islam’s house in Kaitail village of Kaitail union of the upazila. Sabbir, son of Nurul Haque of the same village, had an argument with Mahfuz, son of Chandan of Bansari village, over sitting on a chair during the Jatra song. The next morning, Mahfuz found Sabbir in front of his house and beat him up.

Ujjal Kanti Sarkar also said that to resolve the matter, the leaders and activists of Upazila Awami League and the dignitaries of the area sat in an arbitration meeting at Kaitail Bazar last Thursday morning. At that time, when tension arose between the people of both sides, they clashed with native weapons. 30 people from both sides were injured in the clash. That afternoon, Sultu Mia’s son, Jewel Mia, died of injuries. A case of murder was registered in the police station on Saturday.

OC Ujjal Kanti Sarkar also said that the police have launched an operation to arrest the accused in the case.
