On the occasion of Christian New Year, ‘National Emergency Service-999’ responded to 971 calls across the country related to loud music playing on loudspeakers and noise pollution. Out of which only 237 call services have been provided in Dhaka metropolitan area.
Police Inspector Anwar Sattar, Media and Public Relations Officer of National Emergency Service 999, said that 526 calls were received till 12:00 yesterday, of which 107 people were seeking service from Dhaka metropolitan area alone. And 445 calls related to noise pollution came to 999 from 12:00 PM on Sunday to 12:00 PM on Monday. Out of which only 130 people were seeking service from Dhaka metropolitan area.
In these incidents, the police of the concerned police station went to the spot and stopped the loud music playing on the loudspeakers and settled the complaints related to noise pollution.
On the other hand, a person from Dhanmondi, Dhaka, said that a lantern fell on a plastic sheet on the boundary wall of his neighboring house and caught fire yesterday at 2 am. However, after receiving the news from 999, they extinguished the fire themselves before the fire service went.
