The Election Commission (EC) has given executive powers to 653 judicial magistrates for the two days before the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections, the polling day and the next two days. EC issued a notification in this regard on Monday.
As such, they will be on the field from January 5 to January 9.
According to the notification, this decision has been taken in consultation with the Law Ministry and the Supreme Court under the powers given in Article 89 of the Bangladesh Election Commission’s Representation of the People Ordinance (RPO).
The Judicial Magistrates appointed 653 Judicial Magistrates as Magistrates for taking cognizance and summary trial of electoral offenses including electoral offences, from 5th January to 9th January.
On November 15, the election commission announced the schedule of the 12th national parliament election. As per the schedule, polling will be held on January 7.
