The Africa Cup of Nations is being held in Ivory Coast. A tragic incident happened in the fight for superiority of African countries. Six people died while celebrating after Guinea’s victory in the second group stage match of the Nations Cup. The Guinean Football Federation called on the people of the country to refrain from such celebrations and maintain peace.

Guinea drew 1–1 against Cameroon in their first Nations Cup match. But in their second match, they beat Gambia 1-0 to win their first Nations Cup. After a scoreless first half, the Guinean fans rejoiced with Kamara’s goal in the 69th minute of the match. That goal decided the fate of the match.

After such a victory, Guinea’s supporters were euphoric, and so turned into gloom. After the match, people took to the streets of Conakry, the capital of Guinea. There are several accidents while driving at high speed. 6 people died there.

A video message was released by the Guinea Football Federation following the incident. Everyone has been urged to be cautious and celebrate there. The team’s media manager Amado Makadzi told the BBC: ‘What is important is that our fans and the public celebrate in a controlled manner. They should be careful not to put themselves in any kind of danger. Because the goal of football is to bring joy, not to leave the family.’

Amado also said, ‘We don’t want to mourn the death. So we ask everyone to be careful and celebrate with themselves, so that nothing happens to them. Guinea is a country where people are very passionate about football and no one else in the world has football like them.’

Guinea will take on Senegal tonight in their final match. A draw against Sadio Mane will see them progress to the next round. However, Guinea will have to look at the results of Cameroon and Gambia to have a chance to go to the second round even if they lose. Guinea is second in Group C with 1 win and a draw in two matches. Today at 11 pm Bangladesh time, the 80th team of FIFA ranking will take the field against Senegal.
