On the fourth day of the appeal hearing at the Election Commission, 46 candidates were withdrawn. 51 applications were rejected. The two appeals are pending for hearing. A total of 99 appeals were heard on Wednesday. In this regard, 214 people returned their candidature in the last 4 days.
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal and other Election Commissioners gave the final verdict in the appeal hearing which started at 10 am on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the nomination papers of Awami League candidate Enamul Haque Babul for Jessore-4 constituency have been declared invalid due to defaulted loans. The election commission said that the hearing of the candidature of boat candidate Shamim Haque on the appeal of independent candidate AK Azad from Faridpur-3 seat will be held on Friday.
Meanwhile, Awami League candidate Salahuddin Ahmad’s candidature of Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency was also canceled in the Appellate Division as the loan default was proved.
Earlier, 56 candidates were returned on the first day of appeal hearing, 51 on the second day and 61 on the third day. All applications will be disposed of by Friday, EC said.
So far, about 400 appeals have been heard in four days. Among them, a total of 214 people returned to the polls in four days.
As the nominations were cancelled, 561 people appealed to the EC to get back their candidatures. Most of them are unique. These nominations were canceled due to various charges including defaulters, wrong information in the affidavit.
