5 suggestions of the Ministry of Agriculture to protect the crop from cold flow

The Ministry of Agriculture has given 5 suggestions to the farmers to protect the crop from the cold flow. This information was informed in a press release of the ministry on Sunday.

According to the notification, according to the information of Bangladesh Meteorological Department, mild cold flow is flowing over Rangpur division (Rangpur, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat) along with Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Chuadanga and Kushtia districts and it will continue for the next two- May continue for three days.

The following urgent suggestions are given to protect field crops from the harmful effects of this mild cold flow

1. In this condition of fog and mild or severe winter, 3 to 5 cm of water should be retained in the seed bed of Boro rice.

2. In order to protect against the onset of cold and for normal growth of the seedling, the seed bed should be covered with transparent polythene at night, water should be removed from the seedling bed in the morning and watered again and the accumulated dew on the seedling should be drained every morning.

3. In the current weather conditions, potato tuber blight may attack. Mancozeb fungicides should be sprayed every 7 to 10 days at approved doses for control.

4. Alternaria blight can occur in mustard. As soon as the disease appears, fungicides of the eprodione family should be sprayed 3 to 4 times after 10 to 12 days at an approved dose.

5. Fruit trees should be given regular light irrigation. Young fruit trees should be covered with straw or polythene sheets to protect them from cold winds.
