Police have arrested 5 robbers in the case of bus robbery in Pirganj on Rangpur-Dhaka highway. A case has been filed in a police station in this incident. Last Monday night raids in Pirganj of Rangpur and Palashbari area of Gaibandha arrested them. Additional Superintendent of Police Razia Sultana gave this information in a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
The arrested robbers are Feroz Mia (28) of Agachtra village of Pirganj, Rangpur, Mehedi Hasan (25) of Jaipur village, Mohammad Ali (38) of Bara Alampur village, Shahjahan Ali (30) of Bara Gopinathpur village and Manowar Hossain Mazin (38) of Chatra village.
Meanwhile, 6 sharp knives used in the robbery, 3 smart phones and 5 button phones used by the robbers and a pair of earrings similar to the looted gold were recovered from them.
In the press conference, Additional Superintendent of Police Razia Sultana said that the police started a secret investigation into the incident of robbery by bus on the road. In the investigation, those involved in the robbery have been identified and arrested. The arrested persons are members of inter-district robbery gangs. There are several cases against them in different police stations. The operation to nab the absconding dacoit members is continuing.
Razia Sultana also said that the bandits disguised themselves as passengers at Chandura bus stand in Gazipur district around 9 pm on January 12. Then the bus halted at Sherpur Food Village of Bogra district around 1 am. At one stage, around 3:30 pm, members of the dacoit gang crossed the Laldighi overbridge under Pirganj police station and took hostage the bus passengers including the bus driver, helper, supervisor with sharp weapons and took the bus under their control. During this time, the robbers looted 8 smart phones, 8-10 button phones, 42 thousand taka in cash and gold ornaments.
