In 2023, 45 people were killed across the country due to various political violence. About 7 thousand people were injured in these incidents. More than twenty thousand have been arrested. This information was given by the Law and Arbitration Center (ASK) while releasing a report on the human rights situation at the National Press Club of the capital on Sunday morning.

The organization prepared this report based on the reports published in various media throughout the year. They said that 290 journalists were tortured in 2023. Among them, 78 journalists were attacked while on duty.

The report titled ‘The State of Human Rights 2023: Observations by the Law and Arbitration Center (ASAC)’ also said that 20 people were victims of extrajudicial killings this year. Last year this number was 19. 105 people have died in custody this year, compared to 65 last year. 9 people have gone missing in the identity of law and order forces. 6 of them were later arrested.

Besides, 573 women were raped. Among them, 33 people confessed to murder and five committed suicide. There were 21 cases of persecution of religious minorities. 30 Bangladeshis have been killed by the Indian Border Guard along the border, compared to 23 last year.

Farooq Faisal, Executive Director of Law and Arbitration Center (ASC), delivered the main report at the press conference. The report provides specific recommendations on various human rights issues from January 1, 2023 to December 30, 2023.

According to the report, like last year, there have been incidents of violence against women including rape, sexual harassment, family violence, arbitration and fatwas. At least 142 women have been victims of sexual harassment and harassment this year, according to statistics from the Data Protection Unit of the Law and Arbitration Center (ASC). 122 men were tortured and harassed while protesting these incidents. This year 12 women committed suicide due to harassment. Apart from this, 4 women and 4 men were killed while protesting sexual harassment and harassment.
