4 injured in the clash between two groups of Awami League in Munshiganj

Four people were injured in the clash between the two sides of Awami League in Munshiganj. This incident took place in Char Santoshpur village of Ward No. 8 of Panchsar Union of Sadar Upazila around 5:30 pm today.

The injured in this incident are Nazir Islam (55), Nazir Islam’s wife Khorsheda Begum (50), son Mohammad Raju (32) and daughter Sathi Akhtar (25). They were given first aid at Munshiganj General Hospital.

Locals said Nazir Islam of Charsantoshpur village announced himself as the president of Sramik League’s 8th ward and organized Iftar and Doa Mahfil by pulling the banner. The local Awami League and Sramik League leaders and workers prevented it. At that time, local leaders-activists asked Nazir Islam to stop the iftar mohafil by mentioning the identified drug trade. When Nazir Islam continued the ceremony, at one point a clash started between the two sides.

Sathi Akhter, the daughter of injured Nazir Islam, said, ‘When the Iftar party was organized on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the local Chhatra League Jubo League leaders Akash, Mainuddin, Salauddin, Sekandar attacked with a team. My brother came from abroad some time ago. Beat him up. Before this, my brother was killed and bled. Those who came to participate in the iftar party were also killed and bloodied.

In this regard, Mohammad Mainuddin, General Secretary of Panchsar Union Ward No. 8, said, “Nazir Islam is a known drug dealer of the area. Without any consultation with the local Awami League and the leaders and workers of the organization, the member of parliament of Munshiganj 3 constituencies. Faisal organizes an iftar party using images of the revolution. The local leaders-activists got angry and tore down the banner.

Munshiganj General Hospital’s emergency department doctor Ruhul Amin said, ‘Four injured people were brought to the hospital in the evening. One of them had severe head injuries. He was advised for a CT scan. Three others have been given first aid.’

Confirming the matter, Munshiganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam said, ‘I have heard the incident of conflict. No one has filed a written complaint so far. Police have been deployed at the spot. Further action will be taken subject to investigation if a written complaint is received.
