Customs detectives have recovered gold worth around Tk 4.5 crore from under the seat of a private US Bangla Airlines flight back to Dubai. A passenger has been arrested in this incident.
According to a notification from the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation, a US Bengal flight (BS-342) from Dubai landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital at 4:25 am on Thursday. Based on secret information, one of the passengers of the flight, Md Fazle Rabbi, was questioned when he was suspected.
Later, based on the information given by Fazle Rabi, two bundles wrapped in black scotch tape were recovered from the life vest under the seat number 32F and 31F of the aircraft.
Later the bundles were opened on the Green Channel inventory table in the presence of various agencies and 48 pieces of gold bars were found and one more gold bar was recovered from the passenger, the release further said. The total weight of 49 bars recovered is 5 kg 684 grams. Its market value is four crore forty one lakh taka.
The seized gold bars have been deposited in the customs warehouse of the custom house, the customs department said. The notification informed that the detained passenger has been handed over to the airport police station.
