3 teenagers burned in the New Year’s lantern

Three teenagers were burnt while flying lanterns on the roof of a house in the capital’s Kamrangirchar. This incident took place on the roof of the fifth floor of Sohel Mia’s house at Mujibar Ghat in Kamrangirchar in the early hours of the English New Year on Sunday night.

Later they were rescued and taken to the emergency department of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

The victims are – Md. Siam (16) and his two uncles. Rakib Hossain (17) and Md. Raihan (16). All the victims live in Kamrangirchar area.

Siam’s father Swapan Bepari said, ‘My son Siam and two brothers were burnt while lighting lanterns on the roof of the house on the occasion of New Year. Later I rescued them quickly and brought them to Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute. My son Siyam was burnt and my brothers were slightly burnt. They are being treated in the emergency department.

Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute’s resident doctor Dr. confirmed this. Tariqul Islam said, ‘Three teenagers were brought to our emergency department last night from Kamrangirchar. We do not know the extent of burns on their bodies at this time. They are currently kept under observation in the emergency department.
