Three students of Dhaka University received Ali Riyaz postgraduate research scholarship and award. All the awardees are postgraduate students in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism. The prize and scholarship distribution was held today at 11 am on Wednesday at the Mozaffar Ahmad Chowdhury Auditorium of the Faculty of Sociology of DU.
Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Professor Dr. DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abul Mansoor Ahmed was the chief guest. ASM Maqsood Kamal, Rubayet Ferdous, teacher of Mass Communication and Journalism Department, Trustee of Ali Riyaz Post Graduate Research Scholarship, Safarun Ara and Dr. were connected online. Ali Riyaz. Besides, all the teachers and students of journalism department were present in the event.
Ali Riyaz Postgraduate Research Awardee is Tamara Yasmin Tama, a 2020-21 academic year student in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism. The recipients of the scholarship are, the post-graduate of the same department of 2021-22 academic year and Md. of the same academic year. Nasimul Huda. Professor ASM Maqsood Kamal was present as the chief guest and handed over checks of equal amount to the awarded and scholarship students.
In the speech of the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Maqsood Kamal said, ‘Ali Riaz is writing regularly for good governance. We regularly read his writings in various journals. At the same time he did not forget about his university. We thank him for his efforts as a teacher to encourage students in research. We are trying to change the research environment. We have asked departments to introduce theses at Masters level. Such research scholarship will make students more interested in research. I would suggest that a certificate should be arranged for the scholarship students as well.’
Ali Riaz said, “The aim of forming the trust is to encourage the students of the department to research. Congratulations to all who have received scholarships today. I wanted to join Zoom, but couldn’t due to a mechanical error. Hope to see everyone in the future.’
Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Professor Dr. Abul Mansoor Ahmed said, ‘In the process of formation of the entire trust fund, I communicated with Ali Riaz sir as the chairman all the time. Hopefully this initiative of Sir in research will motivate students more in research. Gradually more and more research environment will be created in our university. Despite being so busy, the Vice-Chancellor motivated the students by coming to today’s event. I wish the awardees and scholarship students success in the future.’
