3 people jailed for obstructing voting in Meherpur

The mobile court sentenced 3 boat supporters to 7 days imprisonment for obstructing and beating voters in Meherpur. They were sentenced to imprisonment at Kalaidanga polling station of Sadar Upazila of Meherpur-1 Constituency around 12 noon today.

The convicts are Nazrul Islam (60), Niamat Ali (52) and Yunus Ali.

Abir Hossain, Assistant Commissioner of Meherpur District Administration and Executive Magistrate in charge of Election Mobile Court gave this sentence.

According to mobile court sources, Bulbuli Khatun, a female member of the local reserved seat, went to vote at Kalaidanga Government Primary School Polling Station. At that time the supporters of the boat symbol stopped him and beat him. At that time, the members of the law and order forces in charge of the center and its surroundings arrested three people.

Executive Magistrate Abir said, 3 people arrested for obstructing Bulbuli member from voting have been sentenced to 7 days imprisonment.

According to the police, the three convicts are being sent to the Meherpur district jail on the orders of the mobile court.
