In the current academic year 2023-24 also, 35 universities are joining this year, including three new universities in the batch system admission test. The three new universities added to the admission test this year are Sunamganj University of Science and Technology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology and Pirojpur University of Science and Technology.
This decision was taken unanimously in a discussion meeting regarding batch admission test in public universities at UGC Bhawan today. UGC Chairman (Additional Charge) Professor Dr. The meeting chaired by Muhammad Alamgir was attended by Vice Chancellors of 32 public universities of Agriculture and Science and Technology clusters.
Earlier, 32 public universities participated in the admission test in cluster system. 35 universities are included in the cluster including three new public universities. Apart from this, among the new universities, Kurigram Agricultural University in Agriculture Cluster and Patuakhali Science and Technology University in Agriculture and Science and Technology Cluster have been participating in the admission test.
In the meeting, UGC member Professor Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain, Professor Dr. Md. Abu Taher, Professor Dr. Hasina Khan, UGC Secretary Dr. Ferdous Zaman participated. The Vice-Chancellors of these universities were not called in this meeting as the date of the admission test for engineering group was announced.
In the meeting, Professor Alamgir said, ‘UGC does not want to impose any decision on the world sciences of the country. UGC is working to maintain the independence and identity of the university. He also said, participating in the batch admission test will not undermine the characteristics of the public university.
He suggested the formation of a committee to determine the timing for the admission test of the cluster universities, to determine the financial transparency. Besides, he said that a committee would soon be constituted to create a framework for conducting a single admission test for all universities under the National Testing Authority (NTA).
In the meeting, the vice-chancellors said, ‘There is no obstacle in organizing the batch admission test. The intention of the President, Prime Minister and Education Minister is to organize batch admission test. Cluster admission testing is a proven successful method. There is no way to get out of here thinking about students and parents. Besides, they said that if there is any crisis in the batch admission test, everyone has to solve it together. Urged the UGC to take effective initiatives to cluster the universities outside the cluster.’
