An inmate of Dhaka Central Jail named Zakir Hossain Rabbi (43) died. He died while undergoing treatment at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in the capital on Saturday morning.
Suhrawardy Hospital morgue in-charge Jatin Kumar confirmed the death and said the body is in the morgue. Imprisoned Zakir Hossain Rabbi Lalmonirhat is the son of Panir Hossain of village Durgapur of Adimari Upazila.
It is to be noted that in 2019 Zakir Hossain Rabbi was arrested by Tejgaon police station in a rape case of a woman in Mirpur. Later, when he was remanded, he found out in his deposition that he had not only committed adultery, but had married 286 times in 14 years.
Shafiqul, the prison guard who brought the rabbi to the hospital, said that he was brought to the hospital when he fell ill in the Dhaka Central Jail on December 31. Later, when he recovered, he was again taken to the Central Jail. Later on last Thursday, when he fell ill again in prison, he was brought to Suhrawardy Medical. He died while undergoing treatment there.
Suhrawardy Medical College morgue in-charge Jatin said that in the afternoon, the body of the prisoner was brought to the morgue from Suhrawardy Hospital for autopsy. A post-mortem report will be prepared in the presence of an executive magistrate. After post-mortem, the body will be handed over to the family after formalities.
In this regard, Senior Jail Superintendent of Dhaka Central Jail (Keraniganj) Subhash Kumar Ghosh was contacted by Independent Television several times on his mobile phone, but he did not respond.
