Israel has stepped up attacks in central and southern Gaza. Another 156 Palestinians were killed in one day, according to Gaza’s health ministry. Qatar-based media Al Jazeera reported that the total number of casualties in Gaza rose to about 22,000.
Meanwhile, another Palestinian died in an Israeli prison. Human rights groups called the incident a murder. Seven Palestinians have died in prison since October 7.
On the other hand, on the first day of the year, there were rallies in support of the Palestinians in several places, including New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport, Wall Street and the Brooklyn Bridge.
Israel continues heavy attacks on Gaza on all three fronts – land, water and sea. As at least 350 school buildings were destroyed in the region, more than four lakh students were affected. The UN claims only 13 of the 36 hospitals are operational. Gaza refugee camps have become targets of Israeli forces in the name of eliminating Hamas.
Many children are starving in Gaza due to skyrocketing food prices, the United Nations has said. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that infectious diseases are spreading rapidly in the region. And even in this situation, children are the most at risk, the organization claims.
In addition, the United Nations says that at least 100,000 people have been displaced in Rafah due to Israel’s brutality in Gaza and are living under the open sky. Palestine claims that at least 1.5 million people have been displaced in Gaza. At the same time, 70 percent of residential buildings in Gaza have been demanded to be destroyed.
