At least 20 people, including women, were injured in a clash between supporters of boats and eagle symbols in Muksudpur of Gopalganj-1 (a part of Muksudpur-Kashiani) seat centered on the 12th National Assembly elections. The clash took place in Shuashur village of Mochna union of the upazila on Friday.
During this time, 3 shops and 8 houses were vandalized and looted. Mochna Union Chairman Emdad Molla was arrested by the police in this incident.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Muksudpur police station. Ashraful Alam said that the boat symbol candidate Muhammad Farooq Khan and independent candidate Md. Arguments and fights broke out among Kabir Mia’s supporters. Later, when this news spread in the area, people from both sides got involved in an hour-long clash with indigenous weapons. At least 20 people including women from both sides were injured in this clash.
The rioters vandalized and looted 8 houses including 3 shops. 20 people have been treated in various clinics including Muksudpur and Faridpur hospitals. On receiving the information, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control. Mochna Union Chairman Emdad Mollah was first brought to the police station for questioning and later arrested.
It is to be noted that during the election meeting of Awami League on Wednesday, supporters of the boat beat up three supporters of the independent candidate. At that time, a person named Noor Alam was also accused of beating up the supporters of the boat.
