2 killed along with van driver after being hit by an oil lorry

Two people, including a battery-operated van driver and a passenger, died after being hit by an oil-laden lorry at Kalai in Joypurhat. Two more passengers of the van were injured in the incident.

The incident took place on Bogra-Jaipurhat highway in Police Plaza area of ‚Äč‚ÄčKalai town on Wednesday evening. Kalai Police Station OC Investigation Anwar Hossain confirmed this.

The deceased are Abdus Sobhan (60), son of deceased Ziauddin of Tarakul village of Kshetlal upazila of the district and Rafiqul Islam (45), son of Gudli Hossain, van driver of the same village.

Besides, the injured are Munchur Ali (32), son of deceased Yazuddin of the same village, Sujaul Islam (50), son of deceased Shahadat Ali.

OC investigation Anwar Hossain said that in the evening van driver Rafiqul Islam was going to Tarakul village from Kalai Bazar with some passengers. On the way, an oil tanker came from behind and rammed the van in Police Plaza area. The oil tanker lost control and fell into the ditch. Four people including the van driver were seriously injured. Later they were rescued and taken to Kalai Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared Abdus Sobhan dead.

Among the three injured, van driver Rafiqul’s physical condition deteriorated and the doctors shifted him to Joypurhat District Modern Hospital. He also died on the way there. The police officer said that the driver and assistant fled after the incident.

The OC also said that legal action will be taken if complaints are made by the families of the victims.
